I allowed myself to be pulled into what was essentially an op-ed debate instead of just sticking with a correction of the historical record. โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย rosarioluigi:No worries, it was my own fault. The people in Columbia blindly followed their prophet. They figured that the guy who could see the future obviously knew more than they did.Themes in Infinite, social and scientific, are from the time period. The reason why people in Columbia were openly racist, was because they had no one to fear. They lived in a flying city, cutoff from the rest of the world, and a prophet who could see the future.

If this game is a "reflection of the times" than it is from a fun-house mirror my friend. โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย rosarioluigi:While Fork has a point that if you took the worst of the worst and let them make their own society you would get Columbia, that still doesn't make anything depicted close to reality. No raffles were held, no announcements were made, no celebrations were had, no articles were written about the greatness of those deeds, etc. But they happened at night, in the woods, away from decent men and women. Deeds that happened in Columbia, did also happen in the real world. Then the rest of the country turned on them. Instead they put on bedsheets and robes and turned to terrorism. Our worst of the worst never got together and made their own society. While Fork has a point that if you took the worst of the worst and let them make their own society you would get Columbia, that still doesn't make anything depicted close to reality. I will say though that while backtracking to the "late 1800's" is a little better, the racism is still an exaggeration of real events. I'm not hollering at you, just saying to Fork how I got sucked into this topic in the first place. โพสต์ดั้งเดิมโดย CommanderLeopard:Infinite handled the issue brilliantly. As Levine himself said,Infinite did not try to show good or the bad side of racism,it just showed how things were in 1912.The detached, neutral look at racism was one of the best things about Infinite. Just tell me what you think, your opinion is greatly appreciated. I love this game to pieces, I really do, but as I said, racism is a serious issue and I'm sickened by the level of it in the 1900's.

It always did bother me about the game, but I just wanted to know your guys' opinions about this issue. I'm white btw, but it's terrible and even sickening to see blacks been spoken to and treated like slaves or animals in the game.

Even Comstock says that the superior man is the white man on one of his voxaphone messages and Elizabeth asks why blacks and whites have to use different toilets, stating that it does seem completely unnecessary. Jeremiah Fink describes beforehand the girl that handed Booker the winning baseball was the 'prettiest white girl in all of Columbia', then makes a racist slur about the black woman on the stage by asking Booker if he's 'taking his coffee black nowadays' then laughing it off. One example is at the beginning, when Booker wins the lottery and that interracial couple is brought out for him to throw a baseball at. What do you think of the level of racism in the game? I am aware that Infinite takes place during the early 1900's, when racism was quite an issue in that time, however I found it rather inhumane when it's brought up in the game by the characters. However I have a personal question to discuss with everyone here. Quite possibly one of the best games I've played, period.
